Cute phone themes- Dodol launcher

Sunday, 4 August 2013

I have had an android phone for over a year and until yesterday did not know you could download themes and customize the look of your phone! Thanks Suzi for showing me your amazing blinged out phone, I was seriously like :O you can do that?! Where have I been living for the past decade.

Firstly, lets just say I am not very technologically inclined. I downloaded a bunch of apps from the Play store upon recommendation such as Go Launcher and Phone Theme Shop, but I just couldn't figure out how to change the themes and was getting so stressed and confused! I seriously spent an hour just trying to figure it out and only managed to download 1 theme. And after that I couldn't replicate my actions and download another. Some of the themes required 'coins', some required an account, some I could download only a few parts of the theme and from those only a few would let me install them! Not to mention it downloaded a whole heap of other random applications onto my phone which I promptly deleted, I can't stand clutter -__-.

This was the first theme from Phone Theme Shop that I managed to download. I am fairly sure it was called Vintage Flower, however I didn't really like it that much... It was just way too blingy and girly for my liking.

So then I downloaded Dodol launcher and deleted all the Go applications I'd downloaded in the hope that it would be less confusing and I was correct! Once downloaded these are the simple steps I took:

  1. Tap Theme (should be an icon automatically on the home screen).

  2. Scroll through the featured themes and tap the one you like.

  3. It will take you to the Google Play Store where you just click Install.

  4. Go back to the home screen and tap Theme again.

  5. Go to My Themes (top right).

  6. Tap the theme you just installed and click apply.

  7. Done! Now you can just fiddle around and customize the fonts and layout of your screens!

Here are some of the free themes I installed:

Neutral White. Too boring for me though.

Molang. Too busy for me! The icons are very cute though, perhaps I will try this one later with a different wallpaper.

Drawing Note. Very School-like lol. I find I am quite attracted to the themes that have icons that have that hand drawn effect. Probably my second favorite.

Finally, my favorite! This one is called Lovely Drawings and I love the style of the doodles, girly but not too over the top.

Another great thing is that you can mix and match- here I just changed the background to something cuter! I love it so much! But I'm sure I'll be exploring way more themes soon- there are literally hundreds to choose from- it's quite stressful lol! By the way, here I have changed the font to Retro Thin.

Overall, I highly recommend Dodol launcher because it's the least confusing, fuss free app for techno noobs like me who just want to have a cute display! I don't care too much for customizing my keyboard, contacts list or dial pad- I tried it with the Go keyboard and found it a lot harder to use Swype on it. So I have left those aspects as original.

On another note, I can't believe the first week of Uni is over already! That's crazy. I still feel very chilled but I'm sure that will change very soon.

PS. I have a Sony Xperia in case any one is wondering. I have not yet come across anyone who has the same phone as me! I think it's pretty good!
