Long-wearing Makeup for Events

Friday, 9 August 2013

Last night, I attended a fundraiser which I had to attend straight after work, which meant I had to do my hair and makeup around 1pm, go to work, then attend the fundraiser at 7pm. I thought this would be a great time to share my tips for lasting event makeup! My go-to look is a neutral smokey eye that is not too dramatic with a nude lip. Note- this is not a tutorial. But comment if you would like one in video form!

Tips for Event makeup:

  1. Use a medium to full coverage foundation with a low SPF. Avoid using BB cream to avoid a reflective white cast in flash photography.

  2. Contour the sides of your face and the sides of your nose to give your face more dimension and make your face look smaller.

  3. Apply more blush than usual as the foundation will flatten the natural contours of your face.

  4. Fill in your eyebrows heavier than usual, especially if your look involves a smokey eye.

  5. Use a liquid eyeliner to decrease chances of smudging. When I use pencil eyeliner it always ends up around my inner tear duct region -__-.

  6. On the lower lash line, pull down the eyeshadow more than you usually would.

  7. Use false eyelashes for added drama!

  8. In my case as it was a long time before the event, I do not recommend highlighting with shimmer in case you have oily skin where it would add to the sheen.

This is not a high drama look, but more of a subtle, sexy evening look. It took me around half an hour to complete this look including the hair.

Products used:

  • Revlon Colorstay Foundation* in Early Tan

  • Revlon Colorstay pressed powder in Light/Medium

  • Australis Paparazzi Perfect blush* in Screen Siren

  • Naked eyeshadow palette*

  • Maybelline Master Precise eyeliner in Black

  • Ebay False lashes

  • Sleek Face Contour kit

  • Rimmel Nude Delight lipstick*

I curled my hair with a 1.5 inch curling iron for glamorous large, loose waves.

*Highly recommended

You can really see the difference that blush makes to your base! These photos were taken before work, unfortunately there were no photos taken at the event because I forgot to bring my camera! However I did snap a picture on my phone in the car after work:

No signs of oil, everything held up really well! Even looking in the mirror when I got home at midnight I thought I still looked fairly decent!

Have a great weekend everyone! And Happy Birthday Singapore!
