Tonymoly products review from BNTnews! Part 1.

Sunday, 25 August 2013

A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by a representative from an online news site BNTnews International to see if I was interested in a chance to join a team of K-beauty ambassadors. They have recently launched their own version of a monthly subscription beauty box featuring the hottest Korean beauty items, and I was kindly asked to review a BNT beauty box!  I won't say any more on the subject as we will see how things pan out ;).

But first, let's back up a little; BNTnews is the biggest international (6 languages!) news media that specializes in Korean pop culture- think K-pop, K-beauty, K-drama and K-fashion. I enjoy reading their short, snappy articles on Korean trends and looking at pictures of pretty Korean stars *__*. It's an easy way for me to keep up with Korean trends as everything is compiled on the one site. If you are interested, you should definitely check them out here- BNTnews, BNTnews Facebook.

Now without further ado, let's move on to the BNTnews beauty box review!

Disclaimer- All thoughts are my own and 100% honest.

The products came in a sturdy matte black box with a simple BNT sticker in the centre and it gave off a simple and classy vibe. I was actually quite surprised at how large it was compared to other beauty subscriptions I've tried. The bigger the better right? ;)

When opened, a sea of pastel pink was revealed! Nestled into the pink tissue were 5 bestselling Tonymoly skincare and makeup products, perfectly arranged. I really appreciate companies that take care and effort in presenting their products, it shows they believe in their products plus made me feel special :). Thumbs up for excellent packaging- there was no way these products were going to get damaged flying halfway across the world.

In order of review, all by Tonymoly:

1. Peach Anti-Aging hand cream
2. Egg Pore Tightening pack
3. Perfect Eyes Water-proof Liner
4. Aqua Aura Moist Finish Pact, SPF25/PA++
5. Help Me Lip balm

This post will contain the reviews for the first two products in bold as my review turned out to be long.

1. Peach Anti-Aging hand cream

"Tony Moly Peach Anti-aging Hand Cream contains extracts of peach and apricot, which makes it a whitening product. Besides, it contains adenosine, an anti-wrinkle ingredient. It gives hands sufficient nutrients, diminishes wrinkles of hands and makes hands elastic again".

It looks exactly like a peach! It is super cute and the novelty of it is definitely squeal-worthy. Definitely one of those products you would display on your dresser.

The container twists open halfway up to reveal a plastic covering, which I removed for this photo. I don't think it is necessary to keep the cover as the cream is extremely thick and unlikely to spill out of the container.

The first thing I noticed was the smell: it smelt strongly and exactly like a peach! Great for me (I love peaches!), bad if you dislike them.

As mentioned, the cream is extremely thick and spreads reasonably well. It didn't come with a spatula which may bother some people, but I don't mind scooping the product out with a finger. It absorbed within a minute and did not leave my keyboard or iPad greasy (very important). My hands feel silky afterwards but not so much they become  bothersome, not to mention the smell lingers for a good two hours depending on how often you wash your hands.

Photographically, there is not much difference in my hands, nor have I really noticed any whitening or wrinkle reduction. Then again, I do not suffer from wrinkles or discoloration on my hands so perhaps I am the wrong person to judge whether this product lives up to it's claims. Another thing to note is that the cream only fills less than half the size of the peach.

In my opinion, the packaging, scent and novelty of the product would be the main attractions here. Ultimately, hand cream is hand cream and yes, this product did a great job of moisturizing my hands and I will continue to use it. I would not classify it as a must have, although I do think most girls would love this for the sheer cuteness!

2. Egg Pore Tightening pack

The Egg Pore Tightening pack is Step 2 in a 3 part series of Egg Pore products. On the plastic packaging it says:
"Wash off pack that tightens loose pores with egg and clay ingredient"

Check out the idea of using the egg as a flower pot after use! Now that is creative, the staff behind the brand are clearly thinking outside the egg box and I love it!

Completely adorable. This was actually the item that attracted me the most out of all- an oversized, minimalistic graphic representation of an egg. The design was right up my alley.

As with the hand cream, the product was covered with a plastic slip over the top of the product which was removed for this photo. Unfortunately you do not get a lot of product for the size of the packaging (again), but in this case, I don't mind. You'll see why later.

The product is reminiscent of a clay face mask, and thankfully does not smell like egg. It actually smells like a weak cleaning product in the pot, but disappears a few minutes after application.

I have always associated blackhead removal and pore tightening with pain- whether it be the evil blackhead removal tool or the Biore pore strips, which literally makes me cry with pain. Thus, I did not have high hopes for this product- how could this seemingly non-invasive clay possibly do anything to clean my pores?

I am really sorry for these scary, HD photos of my nose, but I couldn't think of any other way to accurately show you guys how well the product works!

This is my nose after cleansing. Not terrible, but still some visible darkened and large pores. I applied the product on my nose and waited 15 minutes until the clay dried and I could feel my nose pulled tight. Then I washed it off:

Initially I didn't see any difference in the mirror and skeptically snapped some photos. I was shocked when I compared the photos on my computer. There is definitely a big difference! The darkened pores have gone completely and my pores ARE smaller. These pictures really speak for themselves- no editing btw, reviews are supposed to be honest. I hope you guys appreciate me revealing these gross HD pictures on the internet! :P Ai yah, it's for the greater good.

I hope this makes you giggle :P. Micky and Yanto also approve and said their noses definitely felt cleaner!

Overall, the Egg Pore Tightening Pack surprised me greatly. This product visibly works upon first application and I would definitely recommend it to everyone. Everything gets a tick: packaging, unoffensive smell, claim and effectiveness!
