DIY Purple Dip Dye with Live Ultra Brights in Magnetic Purple

Saturday, 26 October 2013

I picked up two packs of the Schwarzkopf Live Color Ultra Brights in Magnetic Purple and Shocking Pink from Priceline for the super cheap price of $2.75! I thought they might come in useful for future cosplays, but my curiosity got the better of me and I ended up dip dying my hair purple.

The color comes in a foil pack, not a bottle and there are gloves included. This color was only recommended for medium blonde hair or lighter. My hair falls somewhere in between dark and light blonde and it still turned out relatively bright!

What I did:

1. Shampooed and towel dried my hair
2. Applied the dye on the last two inches
3. Waited 20 mins, then applied more dye on the last 3 inches of my hair for a more gradient effect
4. Waited 15 mins then washed it out

Super easy! The dye took to my dry, porous hair quite well and made it feel really smooth at the ends. It also smelt like a sweet, fruity conditioner which was really pleasant. It's supposed to last 8 washes (about 2-3 weeks for me) and I will update this post as time unfolds. I like it as a temporary pop of color to my hair, but I wouldn't keep it! I think it will look better after some washes as the shade is a tad too dark for my liking.

I would recommend this product for those who are curious about how they would look with bright hair, but don't want to commit!

*Update 15/11/13- It has been 3 weeks and there is still some color left in my hair! This product definitely lives up to it's claim, in fact it lasted more than 8 washes. Note that my hair is dry and porous and tends to take to color very easily. Very fun product to try out a dip dye. The only problem I can forsee is if you dye your whole head it may fade unevenly at the roots first because we tend to scrub our scalp more than our ends.
