Stylenanda 3CE One Color Shadow Review #Saturn

Friday, 11 October 2013

I received a one color eyeshadow pot in the shade #Saturn in October's Bntnews beauty box. To be honest, I prefer eyeshadow palettes for sheer convenience as they are easier to take traveling and coordinate. However I do make exceptions for single shadow colors that are unusual, and Saturn definitely hits that mark!

Color

Saturn is a deep burgundy color with pearlescent pink highlights and a shimmer finish. I own nothing close to similar in my collection!

Packaging

The shadow pots come in a chic black box congruent with most of Stylenanda's cosmetics. The product itself is packaged in a sturdy plastic black container similar to MAC's single eyeshadows. It snaps open and closed rather satisfyingly might I add. You get a massive amount of product for an eyeshadow (3.5g), it is literally the size of some of the blushes on the market! See the photo below for comparison with my hand. This is good because you are definitely getting some bang for your buck, I believe it would take years to hit pan on this product. However, this is a negative if you are not a fan of oversized cosmetics for travel/storage reasons.

Pigmentation

The product does swatch lighter than it appears in the pan due to the shimmer finish that makes the color so unique. It's a gorgeous color- it reminds me of warm wine and berries on a balmy Autumn afternoon.

I found the eyeshadow to be quite 'hard' which made me think that the pigmentation would be sub-par, however I was pleasantly surprised- the color glides on silkily and is quite pigmented. You do need a good swipe to pack the color onto your brush/finger which actually allows for better control of the amount you use.

Proof in Pictures

Now for the all important eyelid application. It became more evident on my eyelids that Saturn is essentially a shade of red! Be aware that the color appears more red on the eye than the hand due to the pink tones that are in the face. Depending on your skin tone, this can make your eyes look swollen. The shadow applies and blends perfectly on primed eyelids (Urban Decay Primer Potion). I used a dense brush to pack the shadow on, then a fluffy brush to blend out. Considering the high pigmentation level, I expected some fallout, but there was none to speak of. I actually prefer this formula to my Naked Palette shadows which are softer and have some fallout. *Eyes Stylenanda eyeshadow palettes*

Below you can see how the color looks with brown eyes. I think it's a nice, yet unusual combination!

Overall Thoughts

Overall, the plus points of this product are the excellent formula, size and rich color. That being said, this particular color is quite bold and may not be everyone's cup of tea. I love this color when it is paired with golds and neutrals, but find it quite hard to pull off on it's own. I would recommend this product due to the excellent formula and there are plenty of other colors to choose from on the website if you don't like the idea of Saturn!

Here's an example of how beautiful Saturn looks when paired with gold and brown. Stay tuned for a post on how to achieve this Autumn inspired look!

*I received this product for free for review purposes. All opinions are honest and my own.
