Goo Hara Makeup Inspired Look

Thursday, 14 November 2013

I mentioned in my 31 facts about me post that I think Goo Hara is the prettiest girl ever, so I decided to do a makeup look inspired by her! I love her unique look with her wide set eyes and 'alien doll' appeal, although I was a bit saddened by the news of her plastic surgery (years ago) she still remains relatively less plastic compared to some other idols.

Hara sports many different looks in Kara's MVs, but I noticed that her makeup has one theme that has been repeated through many photoshoots and videos. An intense cat liner and thick eyeshadow along the outer third of the lower lash line elongates her eyes and makes them look even more exotic. The makeup artist further adds to the elongation effect by lining only the inner waterline and leaving the outer waterline clear. Here are some examples:

Eyes
1. Fill in your eyebrows lightly into a thick, short and straight shape.
2. Buck from the Naked palette over the lid for some depth.
3. Maybelline Master Precise eyeliner in a thick, extended wing. Draw it out a lot further than you normally would.
4. Black eyeshadow on the outer third of the lower lash line- smoke it out and lay it on thick!
5. Black eyeliner on the inner third of the waterline.
6. Half Baked from the Naked palette on the tearduct.
7. False lashes!

It's super simple and you can easily adjust how intense you want to be! I would have loved to go as extreme as the last photo above, but I was going out to dinner with my grandparents later so it wasn't appropriate.

Face
I kept it pretty minimal with my trusty Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream #27 (I probably don't even need to list this any more!), bronzer to define my face and a nude lip- Revlon Superlusterous in Blushed.

Overall, I really like the trick of lining the inner waterline and eyeshadow on the outer lower lash line. It didn't close up my eyes as I thought I would, in fact they look larger! I will definitely be sporting this look more often, you guys should definitely try it out!

PS. This week I had 5 exams in 5 days. It has officially been the worst exam period of my life, my stress levels and insomnia combined together and I was exhausted to the point of tears, my mind wouldn't work and my sympathetic nervous system was on the go 24/7 to the point where I had a stomach ache for 3 days because my body was too stressed to digest food (ie. Loss of parasympathetic function). That's my theory anyway. One night I even started getting phantom pains in my arms and legs and my vision blacked out. Scary huh. Anyway, I have 3 exams next week- overall 8 exams in 12 days. This amount of stress is ridiculous and I'm not the only one feeling it. This system needs to be changed! :(

  1. Hello Kine, we are humans not superheroes! it is understandable that you feel excessive pressure. You're giving too many exams concentrated in a few days. I think that meditation can help you. When I meditate I feel peaceful, I feel any more pressure. I feel re-balanced and centered. In the life of every day we have to be aware, present at all times. We have to observe ourselves as if we are spectators. We have to be spectators of ourselves. We have to observe our actions, to observe our behavior as if we are looking at another person. In this way maybe we can be more relaxed and less stressed during periods of tension that life present us.
The serenity makes life better for ourselves and for people who are around us.
... anyway, I wish you good luck again for your exams!
    Regards, Giordano

    1. Hi Giordano, thanks for your kind reply. Meditation has always been something I've wanted to learn, especially since I am prone to getting too 'caught up' in menial things. There are bigger things in this world than me and my exams and it does no good to worry about it :) It makes me glad to hear it helps you! Thank you for your luck, I will need it :)
