February Favorites 2014

Saturday, 1 March 2014

It's time for my first favorites post ever! I always thought monthly favorites was more of a Youtube thing, but I chanced upon a blog post the other day and realized they are actually quite helpful and informative. So without further ado, here are my February favorites, Tadaaahhh.

 1. Lush Figs and Leaves Soap- I've bought several soaps from Lush now and this is my hands-down favorite so far. I asked the store assistant which soap was the most moisturizing and she pointed me towards this one and I've repurchased it 3 times so far. It has a very mild 'exotic' floral scent that I can hardly smell at all in the shower. It leaves a slight slippery film on my skin and it is so moisturizing that I can get away with not applying any lotion afterwards! I absolutely hate applying lotion because it makes me feel nasty, so this soap has been a godsend in allowing me to be errr... more lazy.

2. Nature Republic Aqua Super Aqua Max Combination Watery Cream- I reviewed this product for Bntnews and my love for it has grown tremendously. It's a really great, refreshing moisturizer for Summer and absorbs into my skin excellently and provides enough moisture to keep my flakes at bay. I really enjoy the fresh aqua scent too, despite it's strength. My boyfriend loves it too (unfortunately) which means I'll have to repurchase it soon!

3. Doctorcos Amino Acid Hybrid Sheet Free Mask Advanced- I've been using this twice daily immediately after cleansing and find that it seems to lock in moisture to my dry skin very well. I have also noticed that my skin has very gradually become more even in tone. However, I'll have to see how my skin goes without it before I decide on repurchasing.

4. Verikos Aloe Calming Oil- I reviewed this last year and forgot about it because my boyfriend had taken possession of it as it helped with his eczema tremendously. A couple of weeks ago, I went too far with exfoliating my face and my skin turned slightly bumpy and red for a few days. I decided to apply this oil all over my face overnight and woke up with a dramatic decrease in bumps and redness! It was pretty amazing and one of the first times I have seen a change in my skin overnight. I will continue to use this only in times of need because I don't want it to run out!

5. Lush American Cream Conditioner- We picked this up in Japan and honestly, I wasn't expecting much after my horrible experience with Lush's Jungle conditioner. I was hooked on my first use. A little went a long way on my long, dry hair and it actually made my hair soft! My hair has never felt soft, it usually can be described as coarse hidden by a silicone-y layer on top (fabulous -_-). Not to mention it smells fantastic and is silicone free! I have already repurchased this.

6. Kate Colorcious Diamond 5 Color Eye Shadow Palette in GR-1- A super sparkly green eyeshadow palette that is surprisingly neutral on the eyes. I have been reaching for this all month because I just can't stay away from the glitter!

7. Canmake Glow Fleur Cheeks Blush- I have yet to write a review on these pretty, inexpensive blushes but I love them! I have started to turn away from highly pigmented blushes, instead reaching for these babies which are super silky with light to medium pigmentation. This allows you to slowly build the color resulting in a silky smooth, subtle glow. I initially stayed away from the cheap looking brush supplied with it, but it actually applies the blush better than my MAC blush brush! Double win! My only gripe is that the packaging is pretty el cheapo, but seriously... Product > Packaging.

8. Minatsu Soba/Buckwheat Noodles- I fall into food ruts all the time and for the past 3 months I have been having soba noodles with dipping sauce for lunch almost every day. They are just so darn easy and fast to make and taste sooo good! Needless to say I've been through heaps of brands and so far these are my favorite because they are firmer and thus more satisfying to eat than their softer cousins. Plus, you get 12 bunches for $7.50! You can find these at some Asian stores.

9. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson- This is my third time rereading book 1 of the Stormlight Archives because..... Book 2, called Words of Radiance, comes out in a week! I can hardly wait, I'm so excited! This book is one of my favorite fantasy books of all time. Sanderson has created such an exquisite, ingenious world that I get completely lost in every single time. Plus I have a mad crush on one of the main characters, Kaladin. Heehee.

10. Settlers of Catan- If you know me in person, chances are I've been raving about this game. Before this, I didn't really like board games at all but this has definitely been a game-changer (hurhur). I've played it 3-5 times a week for the whole of February (on top of studying for exams!) and only won once, but damn, it's such a good game- my whole family is completely addicted! How times have changed, two years ago I used to spend my weekends partying, these days the same friends come over for 'Settler's sessions'. Don't be fooled by the dull looking peasants on the box, do yourself a favor and get this game! We have already bought the 5-6 player expansion.

I hope you enjoyed my February Favorites!

  1. I love that you are a fantasy/nerd fanatic too haha...I don't know many girls who openly admit to liking those sort of things. I've heard of that Settlers game before, but no one I know has it. =( Booo.

    1. Haha I'm a nerd and proud of it! I have never actually met any girls who are into fantasy, so all my fantasy friends are boys :(. You should get Settlers and force everyone to play it with you! It's such a great game :D

  2. I've totally forgotten about the Verikos Aloe Calming OIl too until recently! I ran out of my LUSH Tea Tree Toner so I mixed the oil with with water in a spray bottle and used it as a replacement toner/facial most. Feels great on the skin! :)

    1. I realky think its an awesome product! I would not have thought to mix it with water because its an oil, it wouldnt mix? But it's good you're enjoying it, plus that way it will last longer!
