Lush Godiva Solid Shampoo Review
Friday, 30 May 2014
If you're a long term reader, you'll know I use all Lush products on my hair and have tried almost all of their solid shampoos. My scalp started becoming flaky and dry a couple of months ago, I'm assuming from prolonged use of the solid shampoos (I was using Squeaky Green at the time) so I decided to try Godiva, one of the only conditioning shampoo in the line. I had been avoiding this particular bar because I read some blogger reviews that said it didn't last long, didn't lather as much and crumbled easily with water. But my scalp was so dry, so despite the reviews I decided it was time to try it for myself!
"Sexy, jasmine-scented, two-in-one shampoo and conditioner bar. Godiva is named after the woman who famously rode through the streets of Coventry with only her long flowing locks to cover her modesty. She was protesting against the taxes her husband was planning to introduce. Godiva has the same sensual, jasmine scent as Flying Fox and it makes your hair soft."
You can either swipe the bar across your wet hair or rub it in your hands to create a lather.
I can pick up some jasmine scent in the shower but it's very light. This is definitely not a strong smelling bar, but at least it's mildness won't irritate most (I found the intoxicating cinnamon scent of 'New' way too strong!). This bar doesn't lather as easily as the others, but I find 4-5 strokes of it through my hair does fine to create a really rich lather.
The bar is slightly softer than the rest, but I keep it on a wire rack (inside the shower for ease of use) so it can dry out after every use and I have not noticed any mushiness or crumbling after a month of use! So therefore I don't agree with any of the negative things that were said about this bar.
As for cleansing, my hair and scalp don't feel squeaky clean like it did with 'Squeaky Green' or 'Seanik' which were probably too harsh for my scalp. My lengths do feel clean yet not particularly soft or conditioned and you will definitely need to use a conditioner afterwards (I use American Cream). But the good news is that the extra moisture stopped the dry flakes from appearing! I wash my hair every 3 days and with a little help from my dry shampoo, my locks never look greasy, Hurrah!
I'll be sticking to this shampoo until it dies and then I have my eye on 'Trichomania', the other conditioning solid shampoo ;). And so far, Godiva is my favorite of the lot!
