Skinfood Fruits Brunch Lip Box in Peach Review

Friday, 16 May 2014

I admit that when I received this lip trio from Honestskin I was not particularly excited to use it. This is because I've purchased lip palettes before and never end up using them as I remember that I dislike the combo of bulky packaging and using my fingers to apply lip products!

Nonetheless, thank you Honestskin for sending it to me for consideration as I'm sure there are people out there who love lip palettes! As always, this Skinfood product contains "special food ingredients for the skin to keep our skin healthy". Except that I think they mean lips?

First off, the packaging is completely adorable! It's a little tin box with an embossed border and a pink sticker. It has a vintage appeal to it and I also love the name of the product- 'brunch box' sounds like something you'd pack in a dainty picnic basket to go frolicking in the flowers!

There are 2 lipsticks and a lip gloss inside along with a brush and a mirror. I don't care much for lip brushes in general because they make application more time consuming, so I simply rub my finger in the product and swipe on my lips.

I was pleasantly surprised when I swatched the colors on my hand as they appeared very pigmented! I did have to rub my finger around in each color a fair bit to get adequate transfer though. The first color is a salmon pink, the second is my favorite and is a cool toned pink. The third color is pretty much just a translucent gloss. In fact both the 'lipsticks' also had the texture of a waxy gloss.

Unfortunately, the first and second color appear very similar to each other on my lips as you can see below:

I find that the coverage is quite sheer, yet uneven and does not 'stick' to the inner parts of my lips. It also pools in the creases of my lips, accentuating them. Lasting power is fairly weak and the gloss comes off within 1-2 hours. Reapplication is difficult as I always want to wash my hands before dipping my fingers into any makeup, which is sometimes not possible at work/uni. It's not all bad though as my lips do feel comfortably moisturised with the product on.

I wore the 2nd shade in my Skinfood Muffin Cake review!

The product can be found here at Honestskin for $4.84, which is insanely cheap! As you can tell, this product was definitely not for me as I don't care for lip palettes or pot products which require fingers in sticky substances. I also don't think the product worked for my dry, lined lips. However, I imagine this would make a really cute and affordable gift for young girls around 10-15 years old as the pigmentation is quite sheer. At least I think I would be delighted with this product if I were 10 years younger!

As always, use my code above to get 5% off! I do not get any commission from this code, it's just a gift to my readers.

I also thought I'd use this post to show you some of the samples I've received from Honestskin (thanks for being so generous!) and my quick thoughts.

The Black Pullulans treatment essence and ampoule from Banila co.
HOW CUTE IS THE TINY AMPOULE!? It's literally half the size of my thumb! Freak out aside, this stuff is really really good. The essence makes my skin super soft and hydrated and smells like lavender- my favorite scent. The ampoule adds to this effect and together my skin feels and looks so so happy! I am considering buying the full size of these products! The only thing is, they are rather expensive :(.

Nature Republic Better than Nature Skin Softener. Nature Republic, why you have to be so hit and miss? This stuff irritated my skin so I stopped using it after 1 use.

I've tried Etude House's famous Moistfull collagen cream before and really liked it. It's super rich, which I love, and my dry skin is comfortable with it. Would definitely consider repurchasing once my current creams come out.

Skin 79 Super BB Cream is too light for me, but I can get away with it as it's coming to Winter now. It's thick and I like thick BB creams, but this is sort of hard to blend. Don't think I would consider getting this one.

Thanks for reading guys!
