The Body Shop Colour Crush Lipsticks Review

Thursday, 19 June 2014

I was so excited when I saw these colourful tubes in my package, courtesy of the Body Shop Australia. I've been testing them out for a few weeks so let's see my verdict!

Fall in love with lip smacking colour with our new Colour Crush™ Lipstick, this super nourishing lipstick collection is made from the finest quality crushed pigments and each colour is 100% cruelty free, 100% vegetarian and 100% high impact.

High-impact colour
Rich moisture
Infused with a subtle rose scent

As an animal lover, I'm glad to see this product is cruelty free.

Firstly, I find the bright packaging to be quite fun and playful- don't they remind you of a Summer time fruit salad? The only issue I have with these is that they don't feel expensively made- the tubes are light and some people may have a problem with the look of the translucent plastic lid.

I received the shades #235: the Right Mauves and #105 Coral Cutie. As you can see the mauve shade contains shimmer and the orange shade does not.

The Right Mauves applies super smoothly and it glides across my lips without tugging at all. Because of this, it appears quite sheer with one coat and the swatch you see above is the result of 3 coats. The formula is very moisturizing which my dry lips love! However the wear time is quite short- around 3 hours and there were no traces of colour left after a meal. It does not leave a lip stain and there is no noticeable bleeding. The color is a purple-plum shade with a shimmer that turns the color quite cool and frosty. Unfortunately, on my warm skin tone I find this color washes out my complexion and makes me look a little lifeless.

On the other hand, orange shades match my complexion very well and I like Coral Cutie very much! This shade is more pigmented than the mauve and coats my lips in a thicker layer of product, yet is just as hydrating. The finish has a lovely shine to it which makes it more wearable in my opinion. The wear time is slightly longer with this shade and it leaves more of a stain around my inner lips. The color is beautiful- a true and bright yellow based orange and it makes me happy when I wear it!

I love the glossy finish! I like to pair orange lips with a neutral, clean eye look and just a touch of bronzer to add warmth for an every day look.

Overall, I love the texture and finish of these lipsticks and my lips feel so comfortable wearing these. My only qualm is the wear time, it would be great if the color lasted a little longer but I suppose that had to be sacrificed for the super hydrating formula. All factors, including packaging, considered I don't think these are a must have, especially if you own a lot of lipsticks. But if you happen to wander near a Body Shop, then go have a squiz at these! I'd love to pick up a more neutral shade!

The Colour Crush Lipsticks retail at $23.95 at any Body Shop store.
