BornPretty Smokey Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette Review

Friday, 25 July 2014

Good day everyone! I'm currently slogging through study week at the moment, thankfully this trimester we only have 4 exams, a whopping half the usual number.

Thankfully there's always pretty eyeshadow palettes to cheer me up. The product in question is from my newest sponsor, BornPretty store! They have also kindly offered my readers a 10% discount code, simply enter KIMH10 at checkout. All the items on the site are extremely affordable and the quality of the two items I received is truly amazing considering the price.

I chose to review the Shimmer Eyeshadow Earth Toned Palette with Mirror in shade #3. Visit the product link to see the selection of 8 colour palettes. Firstly, I'd like to point out that not all of the 8 palettes are Earth Toned, plus there is no mirror in my product.

The palette only costs $6.90 and with my discount code it costs even less! I was apprehensive about how well the shadows would perform- could something this cheap compare to my higher end products?

The palette comes in a black box which shows the colour combination through the plastic window. My box was a bit scratched but the product inside was pristine. On the back of the box there is a diagram showing you where to place the colours on your eyes for a complete eye look.

The packaging is extremely compact and there is no space wasted on frills. You get 6 large pans of eyeshadow inside a clear case. I like the bold 'smokey' graphic across the front, it adds a little more drama to the packaging. There is also a thin slot for a double ended sponge applicator.

The case feels quite sturdy and there are no issues with opening and closing the palette. It probably would not survive a drop though.

The colour combination I chose is so typical of me! I can't seem to get past the bronzes, sigh. This is a warm toned palette with a variety of bronzes and taupes complete with a highlight and dark crease shade. I love that this range of colours can be used for a full day or night look!

The eyeshadows have a hard texture and the colour payoff for the first 3 shadows is excellent! The fourth and sixth colours are slightly less pigmented, but do pick up better with a brush.

The dark navy colour is the least pigmented and took 2 swipes of my finger to produce the above result. Applied with a brush on the eyes it did seem to show up better.

All of the shadows are shimmery, but the first three really pack a punch!

The shadows pick up even better with my Sigma brushes and transfer to my lid with great pigmentation. There was no fallout at all and the shadows blended easily. I have absolutely no complaints about the eyeshadows at all and overall I am very impressed with this product!

I had no problems with the colours fading or creasing during the day, however I do have dry skin so creasing is never a problem for me. Below is my completed eye look using all 6 colours which produced a natural, yet defined look perfect for every day or night time.

The beautiful Kardashian-esque eyelashes I am wearing are also from BornPretty and I will review them soon.

This product is a perfect example that affordable does not mean lesser quality. I was super impressed by the cost, packaging and quality of this product and I would definitely recommend it! I can imagine taking this travelling with me due to its versatility and compact size. I give this a 9/10 because the darker colour turned out sheerer than the rest.

I like saving money, so I also like to see you saving money. Don't forget to use my code KIMH10 for 10% off any product at BornPretty- take a look at their accessories too! They also offer FREE shipping worldwide.
