Amaranth Ultra Hydrating Cream Review
Monday, 24 November 2014
The Amaranth Ultra Hydrating Smoothing Face cream is the next skincare product in the spotlight from Bntnews. Joanne pointed out in her review that Amaranth is affiliated with two products I have reviewed before- the Bello-Vita Cell Optomizer S Essence and the Sorabee Balancing cream, both of which I disliked. I'm glad to say I like this product a lot better!
I was bemused when I saw the brand name Amaranth because I eat amaranth and millet ancient grain cereal for breakfast! Amaranth is a grain that is becoming a popular ingredient used in skincare products both in the East and West.
The Ultra Hydrating cream is part of a 4 step skincare line. It claims to smooth and hydrate the skin as well as decrease inflammation and encourage skin elasticity with a plethora of natural plant ingredients. These include Rosa Centifolia Flower Water, Panax Ginseng Root Extract and Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract.
The packaging looks professional, mature and chic, but I wasn't highly attracted to it. Seeing as it is plant based, I would have expected a more calming, earthy colour. Plus, I'm not a fan of navy blue in general.
The container is hard plastic and non squeezable with a springy pump top. I like this sort of packaging a lot, much more than a pot. It's so much easier and faster to use and is more hygienic.
The cream is extremely lightweight and watery, but does not form 'water drops' when rubbed in. It simply glides over my skin and the sensation indeed does feel very smooth. I wouldn't say it smoothens my actual skin though. This is one of the fastest absorbing products I have ever used and mere seconds after application my skin has absorbed it all! In terms of hydration, it is definitely not ultra hydrating but it does have a slight cooling effect. It gives light moisture and nothing more. This would be perfect for those with oily skin.
I have to top up the moisture with my current favourite Doctorcos Sheet Free mask. I don't think the Amaranth cream is a necessary step in my dry to normal skin routine, but it is so quick and easy to use that I am still using it twice a day directly after cleansing. I did try it as the last step in my routine, before makeup but it did not make a significant difference.
Unfortunately the Amaranth cream does have a slight perfumey scent to it, however it is mild enough for me to look over. This means that the average person probably won't have a problem with it!
See how quickly it is absorbed into the skin? Not a trace left!
Overall, I like this cream. It's not a must have, but I enjoy the fuss free packaging, smoothing sensation and instant absorption which is great paired with another light cream for Summer. If you have oily skin, I would say this is a good product for you.
*I was gifted this product for review, all my opinions are 100% honest.
