Physicians Formula Sexy Booster Bronzer Review
Monday, 9 February 2015
Attention all Aussie residents, enter my giveaway to win 11 Korean sheet masks! The contest is closing very soon so get your entries in! I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! Last week we booked flights to Japan in April for the sakura season. It has been my dream to go and see the sakura for years and I am so glad it's finally happening. We went to Japan in 2013 in Winter and you can see my blog posts here. If all goes well we will move to Japan after we get our Chiropractic degrees (can you believe I will be addressed as 'Dr' next year? I can't)!
OK! So my review of the Physicians Formula Sexy Booster Bronzer has been a long time coming. I received this product at least 6 months ago and haven't reviewed it, even though I have been using it consistently since.
Irresistably sexy bronzer glow: Wear this perfect blend of bronze and gold like lingerie for your face for an instant sexy boost with an alluring glow.
Sexy Boosting formula: Infused with the scent of warm vanilla, 'afterglow' illumination and ingredients including cocoa extract and ancient aphrodisiac Horny Goatweed to enhance your sexy side.
Who else had a bit of a giggle at the description? 'Lingerie for your face' immediately makes me think of wearing undies on my head haha!
PF suggests to blend both shades together and apply it all over the face and neck. Thus this supposed to be an 'all over' bronzer as opposed to a 'contouring' product. I personally only use it on and under my cheekbones though.
The packaging is definitely 'sexy' but girlishly so. While the red fishnet look is unique, I don't think it will appeal to everyone. Personally, I would prefer it if it were plain black with the fishnet detail overlay, but I don't hate the current design.
The bow has a little stiletto charm attached which is a really cute touch!
The back side has a clear window where you can see the supplied brush, which I never use.
The first thing I have to mention is the smell. The vanilla scent is so strong that it's almost overpowering! It does not linger on the face, but after 6 months of use, the scent has not faded at all. This feature is unique and all, but a scented bronzer just seems strange to me. I would be okay with it if the scent were mild, but this smells like a bottle of vanilla Impulse body spray has been mixed into the product.
This is what the bronzer looks like after 6 months of near constant use. The corset part has retained the gold colour meaning that the bronze and gold areas extended through to the base of the bronzer. Swirled together, the colour comes out as a nice bronze with only a hint of orange tone.
The texture is hard, meaning that you can swirl your brush around numerous times without fear of picking up too much product. I like this in a bronzer because I have had enough of 'highly pigmented' shades that end up either too dark or patchy on your face if you don't tap off enough excess product. I simply swirl my blush/contour brush around three times and go straight to applying it under my cheekbones. The colour is described as 'light bronze' and I'd say that's pretty accurate. It will not show up well on skin tones darker than mine.
Application is really smooth and I have never had an issue with patchiness despite applying it over a dewy base now and then. The colour is definitely buildable. In indoor light, the bronzer shows up dark enough to look like a contour. Here I applied it multiple times for a heavier bronze effect.
However, in sunlight, the bronzer shines gold! The shimmer is very finely milled so there are no obvious glitter flakes to be seen. The down side of this is that you lose your contour effect in the sunlight.
Due to the hard texture and light bronze effect, I do think this would be a perfect bronzer to use all over your face and body for a golden sun kissed glow. It lasts all day, even on my oily skin and does not get patchy. Because of the buildable pigmentation, you can actually be quite slap-dash in your application (I always am because I'm always in a hurry) and you will still look great.
I used this bronzer heavily on my cheeks and jawline for my gold foil eye tattoo review, and you can really see the sun kissed Summer effect it has on my skin!
This bronzer has become one of my favourites on casual University days because it is so easy to apply and gives my skin a beautiful warm glow. For night time events, or more dramatic looks, I switch to a matte bronzer for a darker, contoured look. If you are looking for a light, bronze/golden bronzer for day time use, I highly recommend this baby!
You can buy the PF Sexy Booster Bronzer from Priceline for $29.95 which is very expensive. Perhaps look out for it on an overseas trip?
