Budget Buy! Essence Lip Liner 'In the Nude' Review

Sunday, 10 May 2015

I went to Priceline twice with the sole purpose of picking up some (or all) of the Essence lipliners, but every time they were sold out! The third time I managed to get the last pencil on the whole rack which happened to be 'In the Nude', which was lucky since I have read that the red shades are not worth the money.

That brings me to my next point. These little gems retail for $2AUD. You heard me! Nothing is that cheap in Australia! I also recently found out via Kay, that all essence products are made in Europe too, not a cheap factory in China which impressed me even further.

"Create cleanly contoured and beautifully shaped lips. The smooth texture for a soft and precise application. long lasting and wipe resistant for lips to kiss."

The pencil is your usual, run of the mill design- I dislike sharpening pencils of any kind because I'm lazy, but seeing as this cost me $2, I'll do it. Happily in fact. Freshly sharpened, they last around 3 uses.

'In the Nude' is the perfect shade of nude for my complexion (NC25)! It's peachy and a little darker than most other nudes and compliments my skin tone so well. The product is extremely creamy, and doesn't emphasise my crease-y lips at all, despite having a matte finish. It's comparable to my previous favourite Rimmel Exaggerate lip liner, which I loved for the twist mechanism. I'd say these are slightly drier than the latter though. FYI I'm not sure about the twist crayons any more because all 3 of my Rimmel pencils have broken on me! That doesn't happen with these traditional style pencils.

It lasts around 3-4 hours, which is fairly average for me. I used to think lip liners were pointless, but now I consider them essential to my every day look. They just play an integral role in shaping my uneven lips into a much more desirable shape and colour. In the case of this pencil, I can even forgo the gloss because it's creamy enough on its own!

Amazing. That's all I can say. Cannot wait for Garden City Priceline to restock these babies because I would like to hoard them all. Maybe even purchase 'backups'!

Have you tried anything from Essence before? Do you have any recommendations for me?

*I bought this product with my own money.
