Winter Bath time with LUSH Xmas in July Bubble Bars

Friday, 7 August 2015

Baths are one of my favourite pastimes. I look back in horror at the days where we were rented places without baths- what on earth did I do in Winter?! *overdramatic* There is absolutely nothing better than locking yourself inside a steamy bathroom knowing you have the next hour to soak in sweet-smelling bubbles and ponder over anything you want. Today I had a good think about completing my Pocahontas cosplay, but I am sad to say that some stressful thoughts about clinic crept in...

I was lucky enough to receive two of LUSH's limited edition bubble bars from their Christmas in July collection- Candy Mountain and Christmas Kisses, both $6.95. I usually purchase their bath melts- my favourite is Ceridwen's Cauldren, so I was really looking forward to trying out something different!

Candy Mountain
'The candy scent wafting through the steam includes Fair Trade vanilla absolute, wrapping you in a comforting embrace. If you like the fragrance of our Rock Star soap and Creamy Candy bubble bar, you're in for a treat.'

Christmas Kisses
'Comforting spicy bubbles, as warming as a hot toddy, crumble under running bath water for mountains of fragrant bubbles.'

Hmm, what is a toddy?

I tried Candy Mountain first, and boy does this guy pack a punchy scent! It smells very sweet, like candy with a hint of vanilla and the scent is very strong. I feel like this bubble bar is definitely geared towards the young at heart with its punchy pink and white pattern and lolly scent. As with most LUSH bath products, you could definitely get away with cutting the bar in half and using it over 2 baths.

I did like the scent, but found it overpowering after an hour of breathing it in.

The bath foams up nicely without the jets on.

Christmas Kisses is the more mature of the two. I was drawn to this one more because it really represents Christmas with that spicy, warm red colour. The scent is more muted than Candy Mountain and I much preferred it. I think I was mostly smelling cloves and cinnamon which made me feel really fuzzy and relaxed. Beneath the bubbles, the water turned a deep red colour which was a little scary hehe.

Both bubble bars foam up like crazy when you turn the jets on! You can only have them on for 5 minutes or less otherwise your bath WILL overflow. I was literally drowning in bubbles (and loving it)!

I always always put on a face mask when I have a bath! Here I am trying out a Glam Glow mask sample gifted by Alene from Paperkitties. It made my skin a little tingly and so soft and smooth afterwards! Very good first impression.

If you have been following me on Instagram (@kim_kine) you will know I have been listening to a lot of Nujabes lately. Today I listened to this playlist called Soul Searching. Give it a listen next time you get in the bath!

The bubbles are so firm and stiff that you can build elaborate structures with them. This piece of art is called 'Aang's climb'. The bubbles remained until I got out of the bath an hour later, and they kept the water so insulated that I don't get cold at all, despite the fact that I didn't have the heating jets on in the middle of Winter! Each time I stepped out of the bath completely relaxed and heady with all that wonderful scent, ready to tackle my creative pursuits.

These bubble bars create an experience that encompasses all my senses. To me, LUSH's bath products represent a special ritual, my little treat to myself after a long, stressful week. If you have't tried them, please do as they will change your bath time, if not your life.

Overall I liked Christmas Kisses more than Candy Mountain, but drop into your nearest LUSH store, give them both a sniff and decide for yourself!

*I was gifted these products for review, all opinions are 100% honest. Yes I love baths this much.
