No Heat Waves! BornPretty Hair Curler Foam Rollers Review

Tuesday, 16 February 2016

When I first saw the famous Etude House strawberry hair curlers, I remember thinking they were super cute but had a hard time believing they would actually work. I mean, how many times have no-heat, no-product curls worked for me? Almost none!

BornPretty stocks a cheap version of the strawberry curlers and I received these plus a less cute yellow set to test out. And as you can see in the photo below, they really do work! I was stunned at the results!

Each set comes with 6 curlers. If you have very thin hair you may be able to get away with one set, but for normal to full thickness hair you will need at least 2 packs.

The illustration shows how the rollers are meant to sit on your head. Note that these rollers hang from your head and will not roll all the way up to your scalp.

There is a real difference in quality between the strawberry and yellow curlers. The yellow ones are slightly larger and made of a denser, sturdier foam. In comparison the strawberry ones feel flimsy and of much lower quality. The white polka dots are very poorly printed too. I recommend getting the yellow curlers over the strawberry ones!

It took some practise to get my results, but here is the way I used these:
1. Start with hair that is slightly damp.
2. Split your hair into an upper and lower layer.
3. Hold the curler near your scalp.
4. Take a section of hair and wrap it around the curler, alternating directions around the head.
5. Twist the curler to lock the hair into place.
6. Sleep on it!

Try to roll the curler up towards your scalp.
Try it on dry hair.

Below is the result when used on dry hair and left for 2 hours. Only a slight wave which fell out within an hour.

I was skeptical about sleeping with these in because I already have sleeping issues as it is, but it is surprisingly comfortable. The foam is pretty soft and squishy! However, each time I woke up there were 1-2 rollers which had unrolled and were floating around in my bed. Depending on how long it stayed in place for, you may have to touch up with a heated curler (I didn't because lazy).

The result is beautifully tousled waves with no frizz! My hair is naturally dry and holds curls very well, so my hair stayed styled for 2 days! I was so shocked because these curls look even better than when I heat style my hair.

The proof is in the pictures! I love this product and it worked extremely well for me. I am proud to say that I almost never have to use ANY products on my hair. That's right, I am no-poo, no-heat and no-product now and my hair has never been healthier.

Here are the links for the strawberry curlers and the yellow curlers. They are the same price and I recommend the yellow ones over the strawberries.
