BornPretty Love Alpha Colorful Diamond Shimmer Eyeshadow review
Monday, 7 March 2016
I don't know about you, but I never got into matte eyeshadows. I'm in my mid twenties now, but my look hasn't matured much and I will still pick shimmer/glitter eyeshadow over matte any day! I chose these pretty glitter pot eyeshadows from BornPretty in the hopes of looking like a hot Instagram girl with the perfect shimmery cut crease eyes hehe.
Each pot costs $2.50 here. Don't forget to use code KIMH10 for 10% off any full priced item!
The brand Love Alpha is best known for it's transplanting fibre mascara!
The pots are very pretty on first impressions, but as I inspected them further, I could tell the lid is quite cheaply plated and will be prone to flaking off. But for $2.50 it's fine! There are 14 colours to choose from:
I chose #1, 4 and 13 to review.
I was a little disappointed when I swatched the colours because on BornPretty, the swatch looks like a beautiful, rich, metallic cream shadow:
When in reality, this is what my pots look like:
I was reminded of the cheap body glitters everyone used to use in the 90s (or was it just me?). It's much more like a glitter gel than a cream eyeshadow! It is literally a clear gel with different colour glitter particles suspended in it. And as you can see, when you apply it too thickly, or layer the product, it becomes cakey like swatch #1 and 4.
Here I used:
#1 on my lid
#4 in the tear duct
#13 on my lower lash line
The best way to apply these is with a clean finger using a swiping motion to spread the glitter evenly. It is necessary to layer these over a base colour as they contain hardly any pigment on their own.
In daylight, the glitter is much more subtle. In artificial light, the glitter catches the light and sparkles much more strongly!
Overall, despite the fact that the swatch on the website is misleading, I am happy with the performance of the product once I learnt how to use it. The glitter is really quite pretty when used on the tear duct and it stays all day on my eyes without cracking.
I get the most use out of shades #1 and 4 and have found them useful for everyday use. I like that you can swipe it over any base colour for a more glittery look! I don't care for #13 much and I don't think I will use it. For the price, I think it may be worth picking up a pot in a lighter shade for the tearduct! Get em here.
