Hwajin Cosmetics Homme Terrior All-in-one and Dynamic BB Cream Review
Wednesday, 25 May 2016
And now for something a bit different, behold my first male product review! When it comes to male vs female targeted products, I feel like the only major differences are the packaging and the scent. This set confirmed that to a T. Rumour had it that the BB cream would be a darker shade than normal Korean BB creams, read on to find out if I found another darker BB cream to add to my collection!
Bit of a stretch to say that a face product will make you feel relaxed and comfortable. I must say, I really like the packaging of this one. It's masculine and simplistic yet fierce with the black and gold colours. The set includes an all-in-one face lotion and a BB cream.
Hwajin Cosmetics Homme Terrior, All-in-one
Plant-derived compounds from resurrection plants (plants that are able to survive drought), herbs and apricot kernels soften and refresh damaged and rough skin. The all-in-one moisturises, firms, nourishes and balances oily skin.
Lemon extract: vitamin C and citric acid exfoliates and cleanses the skin.
Bamboo extract: the antibacterial and antioxidant effect of the bamboo sap make the skin moist and healthy.
Iceberg water: ultra pure water collected from Newfoundland, Canada, is used for the softest and cleanest quality.
Pika pomeranian was intrigued by the scent!
The packaging is hefty and expensive looking and looks pretty great in my grey marble bathroom. The only issue I have is that you need to 'slap' the lotion out of the bottle as there is just one small hole to dispense the lotion. Thankfully the consistency is runny enough that it comes out easily.
I'm not a big fan of this lotion because as you can see, it runs off the skins surface like water and is not easily absorbed. The hydration level is extremely light and doesn't really do much for my dry skin. It also smells very strongly of alcohol and cologne- indeed very manly! The scent reminds me of the Amaranth smoothing cream that I used for a while.
That being said, I do think this would be a good choice for a laid back male with oily skin.
Now for the product I was most excited for, the BB cream!
The multi-functional BB cream takes care of the problems on men’s skin with one touch. It expresses natural and healthy skin tone and vitality and contains ingredients that firm the skin.
The star ingredient is Acetyl Hexapeptide-8. Also known as Botox-like Peptide, this compound has a strong firming effect and it's effects have been compared to Botox. The peptide penetrates the skin easily and directly increases the elasticity of the muscular tissues. Now isn't that cool?!
As soon as I saw the shade I went 'nooooooo', because it is still much too light for my skin tone *super sad face*. It is definitely a touch darker than other one shade BB creams I have tried though. On the bright side, the BB cream is yellow toned, not grey and has the exact consistency I favour- thick and hydrating with moderate coverage. It also has a dewy finish, that needs to be powdered over to avoid hair sticking all over your face. I really wouldn't recommend this one for oily skin. This product surprised me as I expected a men's BB cream to have very light coverage, similar to that of a tinted moisturiser.
The scent of the BB cream matches the face lotion, so beware it is quite strong and masculine. I wasn't sure if the scent lingered or if I just got used to it, but no one around me said anything about me smelling like a dude.
Due to the light shade, I resort to using this BB cream as a highlighter over my usual base to give my face more dimension.
I used L'oreal Lumi Magique foundation in Beige Rose.
I then apply the BB cream to the centre of my face, aboriginal art style, and blend it all out. The coverage is amazing for me and covers up all dark circles and darkness around my lips. I don't even need concealer!
I then finish up with powder, blush, bronzer and eyebrows.
On my dry skin and in this cooler weather, my powdered base stays all day. Due to the dewiness of the BB cream, it really would not be my choice of base in the sweaty Summer. As the day progresses, I find that my baby hairs tend to stick to the BB cream.
Overall, this set is a confusing one. I can see how the lotion is suited to males as it is easy to use and light in hydration. However the BB cream is thick and has a relatively high coverage with a dewy finish, that definitely would not look natural if applied all over the face. I don't know about males in Asia, but I giggle a little imagining an Aussie dude powdering over his BB cream with a large fluffy brush.
This set isn't available online yet. But check out this article on Bntnews where the Homme Terrior BB cream was selected as the global homme icon cosmetic at the 2016 Asia Beauty Awards in Shanghai. Perhaps this type of BB cream IS suited for men in Asia!
